These are my notes on a Zoom Teaching delivered 26 June 2025 in Italy
We spend so much time on the mother earth, yet insulated from it. Concrete, marble, etc, leather shoes
And many other ways we prevent that direct contact.
Over the last week or so I have been scanning to computer 100s of photos from 20-40 years ago. I notice in every case the photos that have the most profound meaning in them are always events that took place directly on the mother earth. Except the 5 years in NYC, where I had to drive 5 hours to find a good place to stand on the earth.

What is a teaching. What can we do in a time like this.
The ceremonies of the old Indians are not religion, they are
more like Taoism or Chi Kung than they are like the church.
We could call this zoom session Growing Corn.
An old timer once said this in a big meeting.
He said a good teaching grows corn.
I have taken this to mean that a good teaching works in your life in a way you can feel it, You can understand the cause and effect, see the teaching and feel what it accomplishes in your own mind and spirit.
The most important part of my own teaching
is that I never use a script or a menu or a prepared speech. My main preference has always been to see the people I am talking to and trust my heart to know where I need to go with them…. I do not need an Elija Mohamed, a Pope, a Prophet, a rescue,,,,a saviour…
The old indians cultivated a life of Self Knowledge…aFrom that point you can

You know most public speakers use prepared remarks, rehearsed remarks or read
From notes…the new Pope just did that in his first speech, He came out and read from a big book that was held in front of of his face by a guy with great forearms…he read every word he spoke.
I would like to see, and hear, more words from people speaking directly from their own space in life…not the party line,
No the dogma or the official versions…that is an important
Element in the teachintheir own mouths..You learn to speak buy just
Trusting yourself and going ahead.
I was told that directly in one big ceremony by an old Indian who wanted me to make a give away
In his name …I was so shy, I was embarrassed. I said to him, hey I don’t know what to say. He said, go ahead, don’t worry, you will know…and my name was called and I went out and did it all just fine and the words were all new to me…I had not made them up before
I spoke…it was a great moment in my awareness of the minds of the old Indians and my own. Not only my precious link to them, but my suddenly expanded view of the Creation..it was an
Old Indian that brought me that experience: he said it in a way that I believed him immediately. That is just how interesting their minds would work.
I do make notes for my talks; a way of thinking out loud before I give a teaching. I rarely use them and most of the time I say different things that what I have written in those notes, like these notes. Because, yes, it is good idea to have a talk with yourself about some upcoming ceremony or sharing of something important and precious, as a way of checking in on yourself.
This approach is all very different than following the teachings of some personality, of the church or the government or even your parents. This process cultivates self knowledge in such a way that you become your best teacher, and from there all other things become possible.
These are the people you want to become leaders in a great democracy. An authoritarian state is the exact opposite of this idea: as they demand everyone do what the state says, believe what the sate says, punish those who go another way.
Now more than ever we need those self-cultivating sacred tools to build and protect the courage needed to do the right thing dangerous world we have right now.

How to move your life up and down your body and into the organ system. What you can do with a song once you find it... The rattle, a subjec understood by itself
from looking at the 10,000 things around it. How to use these teachings to rebuild your own original
Instructions, retrieved from you. This is the real value of good teaching.
The big secret about the teachings of the old Indians is that they are teachings that have come up from the mother earth.
You can build
A civilisation with these tools….
People with what we Ojibwe call the 8-sided character. With a morning fire
With a morning song. With good tobacco With a good rattle ..With a great NAME..you gotta have a real name if you aregoing to be anl adult. A new name for this person’s journey. A dance or movement or several... your colors
your bird, one tree, one stone, one pool of water, one wind, one 4 legged, one amphibian or reptile, one direction, one element…and try to find one star and make it yours...
Learn all you can about these things
You can use singing to learn about each thing
Where does the truth come from?
Does it come from a leader, a priest, a school teacher, the government?
The teachings of the sacred mystery life are there to hold in the form the shape and the depth of truth, truth in small things... truth in great things…..their job is to get your attention
Just as a flower gets the attention of the bee and the bird…our greatest experiences in life might in fact come to us just this way, if some Mussolini or some Putin or some Trump or some Jehovah’s witness is not standing in the way shouting down your own sacred silence..the sacred silence of nature is its greatest superpower and the one most of the human civilisation is clueless about….it is in the sacred silence that almost all life on earth experiences its greatest leaps forward and its greatest healings…like a great forest has burned down and left to itself it does remarkable things….and it is from this sacred silence upon the sacred earth that that song will come up effortlessly from your Spirit.
